Sky Kihuwa-Mani has dreamt of becoming a physician for as long as she can remember. Now, that dream is becoming a reality. In a few short days, she will turn her tassel, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology. At the same time, she will turn the page to the next chapter of her life as she prepares to move to New York City to pursue her MD-PhD at one of the top medical schools in the country, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Yahira knew she wanted to be a Spartan since age 12, but it wasn’t until she found her way to UNCG that she really found herself. She’s no longer the shy girl she once was. She’s a leader and a guide, helping others make UNCG their home. She’s found power in her gifts. The School of Dance unlocked her potential, and she’s gained confidence through self-expression. The School of Education helped her unleash her voice. It opened her eyes to a whole new world of teaching, and now she uses integrated dance to inspire the next generation. So when she walk across that stage at graduation, earning two degrees in four years as a first-generation college student, she knows her 12-year-old self would be proud of how far she’s come.
