With the end of the fall term, another group of graduates has completed their educational goals amidst unprecedented conditions. On Friday, December 9, UNC Greensboro faculty, students, and their families gathered at the Greensboro Coliseum to celebrate 1,486 baccalaureate graduates, award 370 master’s degrees, and acknowledge 110 doctoral degrees that were granted in a hooding ceremony the previous day. Themes of resiliency and community spirit resounded throughout the ceremony.
The UNCG Gaming and Esports Club is proud to collaborate with Epic Games to launch the Spartan Invitational collegiate tournament series. The first Spartan Invitational featuring Fortnite took place December 2, 2022 in the UNCG Esports Arena and Learning Lab with competitors from NC State, UNC Charlotte, High Point University, and UNCG. Madison “Maddy” Gilhool thrives when she’s part of a team. Whether she’s on the soccer field or planning an event as a Community and Therapeutic Recreation (CTR) student, she’s inspired by connectivity and community. Bonnie Miller ‘22 has always aspired to be among the learned. At UNC Greensboro, she found a community that encouraged that mindset. Subtlety, humor, empathy, and accuracy are often difficult to convey when interpreting from one language to another. Juliette Vayer will tell you that these key skills in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting, along with advocating for the Deaf community, are part of what compelled her to earn her Bachelor of Science in Interpreting, Deaf Education, and Advocacy (IDEAS) from the School of Education this December. For her honors project, undergraduate Mason Ibrahim is looking at how wetlands restoration impacts terrestrial predators in terms of bat activity. She collects data once a month in the UNCG wetlands (to look at insect populations) and she uses acoustic data to track bat activity.
